What is an Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) filter?
An Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) filter is a device that is implanted into the inferior vena cava to prevent blood clots. It is used as an alternative to anticoagulants.
What are the side effects of an IVC filter?
Temporary IVC filters have a defective design. These devices are meant to be removed within 6 months. Many individuals suffer complications within that time frame and others suffer complications indefinitely because the device is not retrievable.
The device sometimes fractures causing pieces to puncture an organ. Also, the devices sometimes migrate, get embedded into the vena cava, erode, or cause more clotting issues giving individuals severe and persistent chest pains and shortness of breath.
