We also help people from Richland and Florence (Rankin County), Raymond and Terry (Hinds County), and Flora (Madison County). Which court will hear my case?
Mississippi has several levels of trial courts. In general:
- Municipal court – traffic tickets and misdemeanors that happen inside city limits, and first appearances after many city arrests.
- Justice court – small civil claims, misdemeanors, and traffic offenses that happen outside city limits, plus bond and preliminary hearings in felony cases.
- County court – civil cases within its jurisdiction, some misdemeanor matters, and youth court cases.
- Circuit court – felony criminal cases, larger civil lawsuits such as many injury cases, and appeals from some lower courts.
- Chancery court – divorce, child custody and support, adoption, wills and estates, guardianships and conservatorships, and land disputes.
