This page explains what to expect when you contact the Law Offices of John R. Reeves, PC and what to bring to your first meeting with John R. Reeves.

1. Call or send a message

Call (601) 355-9600 during office hours (Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) or use the contact form. Briefly describe the type of matter and any upcoming court dates or deadlines. Please do not send confidential details through the website form; the firm will follow up with you.

2. Conflict check and scheduling

Before discussing the details of your matter, the firm checks that it does not already represent someone on the other side. Then a meeting is scheduled at the office in downtown Jackson or, when appropriate, by phone.

3. The first consultation

At the first meeting, John R. Reeves will listen to what happened, review your documents, explain how Mississippi law applies, and discuss your options, likely timelines and the costs involved. Ask any questions you have. No one can promise a particular result, but you should leave with a clear understanding of the next steps.

What to bring

  • Any matter: photo ID, a short written timeline of events, names and contact information for the other parties and witnesses, and every letter, notice or court paper you have received.
  • Injury and accident cases: the accident or police report, photographs, insurance cards and claim numbers, medical bills and records, and proof of lost wages.
  • Criminal cases: the citation, arrest papers, bond paperwork and any court date notices. Do not discuss the facts of the case with anyone else before meeting with the firm.
  • Family law: any existing court orders, recent pay stubs and tax returns, and a list of assets and debts.
  • Real estate and estates: deeds, surveys, leases, any will, the death certificate, and a list of family members.
  • Business and contract matters: the contract and any amendments, invoices, and correspondence with the other side.

4. If the firm takes your case

If you decide to hire the firm and the firm agrees to represent you, the terms, including fees and costs, are put in a written agreement before work begins. The firm keeps you informed as the matter moves forward and answers your questions along the way.

Deadlines matter

Many legal claims have strict filing deadlines. For example, most Mississippi negligence and contract claims must be filed within three years (Miss. Code Ann. § 15-1-49), and many claims have much shorter deadlines. Contact the firm promptly so that important rights are not lost.
